Spearmint

While spearmint is most popularly used as a seasoning for food and beverages, it is also used for its healing benefits, which are similar to those of peppermint. Many people prefer the less intense scent of spearmint over that of peppermint. Spearmint essential oil comes from the Mentha spicata plant, which has bright green leaves unlike peppermint's dark green is very closely related to peppermint with regard to its active ingredients and ways in which it is used for health benefits.

Medicinal uses of both mint preparations aid in digestion. Spearmint is used for relief of nausea, cold symptoms, stomach distress, headaches and indigestion, muscle cramps and pain.

Spearmint oil and leaves are used are used in relieving sore throats, toothaches and headaches is common, and some people find relief by using spearmint as a local pain killer or as an antispasmodic medication for cramps.

Inhalation – Compared to peppermint oil, spearmint oil is milder and can be used on children. Two drops can help treat respiratory problems and stress.
